Ilex guayusa, also known as Guayusa, is a caffeinated tree in the same family as Yerba Mate that grows in the South American rainforest around the Amazon. The tree grows about 6 to 30 meters high, the leaves are 7 to 22 centimeters long and approximately 5 centimeters wide. The flowers are small and white, the fruits spherical and red and 6 to 7 millimeters in diameter. In
the countries of origin (Ecuador, Peru, Colombia), the native population have been making tea from the dried leaves for many centuries.
The main alkaloids are: caffeine, theobromine, theophylline.
Our Guayusa is dried high quality leaf. Guayusa leaves are best stored dry and sealed (not in the fridge).
