Nelumbo nucifera, also known as Sacred Lotus, is an aquatic plant that
grows in Southeast Asia and Australia. The plant can grow between 1 and
even 5 meters tall and about 3 meters wide. Its roots are planted in the
soil of the river bottom or pond. The leaves can usually grow to about
60 centimeters in diameter and the flowers about 20.
An individual plant can live for over a thousand years. The flowers can have blue, pink or white petals. Our Lotus has predominantly blue petals (but also pink and white). The Sacred Lotus is often confused with Blue Lotus (Nymphaea caerulea), also more accurately known as Blue Lily, which grows mainly in Egypt. They do both share similar chemistry.
The main alkaloids are: nuciferine, aporphine, neferine.
Our Sacred Lotus consists of dried high quality flowerparts. Sacred Lotus is best stored dry and sealed (not in the fridge).
All our products are intended as botanical specimens and not for human consumption.
